January 2026 Magnet Club: Welcome to the New year!
The Month of the Pop-Tart
The inspiration for this magnet came from the concept of fresh starts and new beginnings. As in, the beginning of the day starts with breakfast, so why not start the year with a breakfast treat as the seasonal magnet? The operative word here being “treat”. I figured we could all use a little sugar and sprinkle magic to get us going in the morning.
I know this is only my second Magnet Club magnet release, but it might my favorite so far. Definitely top 2.
Making this pop tart design absolutely required I have a pop-tart next to me at all times for inspiration and accuracy. I’d be lying if I said the (real) pop-tart made it all the way through to the end of my task without getting at least a little nibbled (ok fine, I ate the whole thing).
Now, let me ask you this: when you picture a pop-tart, does it have little crimp lines around the edges? I thought it might, but when I checked the real thing (alright yes, a second pop-tart since the first one was gone already) there were no crimp lines to be found. It turns out that the pastry gets crimped around the edges for homemade pop tarts, or maybe even the house made pop-tarts from your local bakery, but the Kellog’s variety are crimp free. I’m guessing that has something to do with the factory process. I did learn that pop-tarts have steam holes, however, which allows them to vent during the baking process, preventing the pastry from puffing up too much which can cause cracking, and also keeps them from getting soggy or from the filling spilling out.
It turns out I wasn’t alone in my struggle to remember the crimp line details, though. I put out a poll in my instagram story to see what people thought. All together 56 people voted! 36% of voters (20 people) thought that there were crimp marks on the Kellog’s Pop-Tarts. 64% (36 people) remembered correctly that the edges are smooth.
I guess we all learned something here. Except for those 36 people who already knew. Anyways.
This magnet was a really fun one to make. If you’r not a Magnet Club member and want to be, come join the fun and sign up HERE. If you’re not ready for that kind of commitment but absolutely love Pop-Tarts and want your own, I’m releasing a limited amount in my web shop HERE. Get em while they’re hot!
