March 2026 Magnet Club: Spring Roll

March might just be the luckiest month of the year.

And not just because my birthday is in March, but hey, it doesn’t hurt. Is it any surprise I’m a Pisces?

Most of us know about leprechauns and pots of gold, but the month of the spring equinox has long been associated with renewal and good fortune in cultures across the world. This month I'm celebrating the season with one of its most beloved snacks. This crispy treat that carries its own ties to luck and prosperity, beyond the simple joy of watching a fresh order arrive at the table.

By the time March rolls around (pun somewhat intended), I think we’re all ready to leave winter behind and welcome the spring sunshine (and wind, and rain…it’s all part of the deal with spring). Luckily, March brings with it the spring equinox, and to celebrate, this month's magnet is a spring roll, by far one of my favorite snacks of all time.

Choosing the spring roll was part wordplay, part genuine love of crunchy treat, but the history behind it turned out to make it an even better fit that I’d realized. Originating in China (although there are many versions across many cultures today), these delightful snacks are eaten as part of the annual Spring Festival, and their golden color and cylindrical shape represent gold bars meant to signal a year of wealth and prosperity.

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling like I could use a little extra prosperity these days. When I was working out the design for these spring roll magnets (I realize they look simple, but trust me, there was plenty of design work that went into figuring out how to make clay behave like a wrapper made of flour and water), I debated if it should be a whole roll, or perhaps two halved pieces. I tried both, and asked friends, colleagues, and my assistant for opinions. And honestly, no one was any more decisive that I was. We liked them both!

(You can see the halved design in the photos below.)

Once I fell down the spring roll rabbit hole (fueled by an order of spring rolls from my favorite local restaurant, of course), the decision got easier. As soon as I read about the gold bar likeness and the well wishes that came with it, I was sold on the full roll design. Trust me, I’d never want to cut your good fortune in half!

All in all, I’m thrilled with this month’s magnet, and I hope you are too. If you’re interested in the two halves design let me know! I may have a few pairs around looking for good homes.

With this spring roll, I wish you a prosperous year ahead, and if nothing else, I hope you'll be rich in spring rolls and other tasty treats.

And as always, if you’re not already in the club, you’re invited to join me over at magnet club for a surprise monthly magnet shipped to your door!
