October Magnet Club: Pretzel
Some call this the spooky time of year. I call it salty season.
When October rolls around, many of us celebrate by indulging in pumpkin spice everything, Halloween decor, corn mazes, and candy corn. But let’s not forget, it’s the time when pretzels have their moment.
Oktoberfest is in full swing around the world, and nothing pairs better with a Festbier than a fresh pretzel.
I’ll admit I’ve never been to Munich for Oktoberfest, but I’ve sampled many a seasonal lager here at home. And as much as I love the Halloween festivities, candy, and decor, this year I decided to lean into the more savory side of the season.
To make the salt crystals look truly three-dimensional, I tried a new product this month. Aptly named Flecks and Specks, it’s a colored grog, which basically means tiny bits of colored clay that have already been fired. I sprinkled the white Flecks and Specks onto the freshly glazed pretzels to create the salt, and truly, they came out even better than I’d hoped. Flecks and Specks may make another appearance on a future magnet… donut sprinkles, maybe? My mind is spinning with ideas. Brb while I write them down before they disappear forever!
